Executive Director.

Sheri has worked with children since 1971. She joined BVCC as a teacher in 1985 and has been the Executive Director since 1990.

ABOUT US

Buena Vista Child Care, Inc. (BVCC) has been serving children and their families in the Mission District and surrounding neighborhoods of San Francisco since 1978. We offer high quality educational and enrichment opportunities during summer and after school to children kindergarten through fifth grade. Our mission is to provide a safe and caring place for children to learn and grow. We aim to provide participants with an enrichment filled summer and reinforce academic and social skills developed during the school year, all while celebrating the spirit of diversity, tolerance and respect for all! The best indicator of our ability to achieve our stated mission is a long-standing track record successfully serving families and students. As of 2010, we have worked with upwards of 4000 children. We have been certified as an ExCEL after school program for 4 years and a summer site for 2 years. The populations we serve are historically left out of summertime programming. We overcome the constrictions of demographics by exposing children to activities and experiences generally not available to them. Our academic success was apparent with the dramatic increase of the participants' scores on the state standardized testing, an increase of 93 points, the second largest increase in the city. The children and families we serve are primarily Latino, and many live just few blocks away. However, the Mission, Potrero Hill, Bernal Heights, Excelsior and Bayview neighborhoods are all represented in our diverse student population. Participation in ExCel has allowed us to double our enrollment and services at no additional charge to families. Many of the same families we serve during the school year will participate in this grant-funded summer program. We are completing our fourth year as an ExCel after school site. Our participation in ExCel has allowed us to begin a tutoring/enrichment program focused on reading, science, writing and math skills serving over 100 children K-5 for whom English is their second language. We also teach a wealth of non-academic activities such as art, music, drama and dance. As an organization, we have implemented all the curriculum and programs that are offered by ExCel, such as Great Science for Girls, Time for Kids reading and writing programs, the Everyday Mathematics curriculum and text books, the SPARK/PEP program, and Reading Theater.

Please send a sack lunch with your child every day except Friday.

We will provide morning and afternoon snacks.

FEES: $40 per day (for children currently enrolled in BVCC)

$50 per day (for those not enrolled in BVCC 10-11 school year)

Register by Friday, March 18 and receive $5 (per day!) off.
